turn out the lights, the party's over

has the glow from 04 worn off already. this weekend was absolutely pathetic. the kids came up with big goose eggs ('cept for Pap), the stopper of the future (Beckett) looked like Samuel Beckett on the mound, and the lineup looked like they couldn't beat the North Shore Spirit. To top it off they got their heads handed to them by the one that got away in CF. I'm starting to lose faith in the wunderkid GM. How bad is it looking now not signing Pedro, Lowe, or Damon? How bad is the Clement signing looking? Wily Mo Pena? Beckett's extension? Has Beckett beaten anybody over 500 since June? No. He's beaten up on KC and the NL, while being slapped around by the Yanks and Tigers. if he's the future of this rotation, we're fucked. I'm sorry, I know they're trying to build for the future, but right now none of the moves they've made look good. Would Roy Oswalt have been better than Jon Lester? Definitely! Does it look like Hanson, Del Carmen, and Van Buren are going to be able to handle the pressure of pitching in a Yanks Sox series at Fenway late in the season? A resounding NO! The only one who should have been off limits tradewise should have been Papelbon. Everyone else should've been fair game. I know it's a tough weekend, but this is not a knee jerk reaction. When you have a line up of Alex Cora, Mike Lowell, Mark Loretta going agains Rodriguez, Jeter, Giambi, Damon, et. al., what do you think the results are going to be??? Man oh man. Thank god the Patriots start in a couple of weeks!
